Jacaranda Day
relies on volunteers
Jacaranda Day is a community cultural festival.
That means that what happens on Jacaranda Day and how it happens is for the most part, entirely due to the time, effort and ideas of local people from the Goombungee and surrounding region.
Volunteering is a great way to share in this event. Who you are as a person: your values, your experience, your knowledge and your skills - become a part of Jacaranda Day.
Being a volunteer is also a great way to make friends. To learn new skills. And to build up experience that may become an important part of your professional career or a client base for your current work or business.
But most importantly, volunteering is a very real way of being a part of a living and growing community.
Please consider giving it a chance.
Here is a list of the volunteers we need for this coming Jacaranda Day:
JACARANDA DAY AMBASSADORS
Jacaranda Day Ambassadors rove the street providing maps and programs and information/advice as to upcoming events and available facilities. Ambassadors may choose to be rostered onto the INFORMATION tent situated centre street in front of the Post office. Ambassadors may also choose to sell raffle tickets or spend time on the Jacaranda Day Merchandise Stall. Rostered times will usually be of maximum two (2) hours duration.
Date required: Saturday 2 November 2024. Time Required: 8:00am – 2:00pm rostered.
Training Required: One hour induction in the week leading up to Jacaranda Day.
Age Restrictions: Must be over 13 years of age ( 13 – 15 years with adult supervision.)
Number of Volunteer Ambassadors Required: More than 10
PARADE MARSHALS
Date required: Saturday 2 November 2024. Time required: 10:00am – 12:00Noon
Training Required: One hour induction in the week leading up to Jacaranda Day.
Age Restrictions: 17 Years or over. Number of Volunteers Required: 4
PARADE ROAD ATTENDANTS
Four much loved 11:00am parade, Parade Road Attendants stand every fifty metres at the edge of the parade route and ensure pedestrians do not enter the road.
They wear a purple visibility vest and carry a pea whistle.
Parade Road Attendants can stop the parade if there is pedestrian danger.
Time Required: 11:00am – 12:00Noon Number of Volunteers Required: Minimum 16
Training Required: One Hour Induction in the week leading up to Jacaranda Day.
Age Restrictions: Must be over 16. Date Required: Saturday 2 November 2024.
SIGN INSTALLER
There are two sets of signpost installers.
Group One installs signs at major road junctions across the region. They require a car and trailer or ute and a drivers licence. It will take approximately 4 hours to place 30 signs across the region. Posters will be provided with a map of sign post locations. This group will work approximately 2 – 3 weeks PRIOR to Jacaranda Day.
Sign REMOVAL will occur in the week following Jacaranda Day.
Group One: Sign Installers
Date Required: For one day 2 – 3 weeks prior to November 2. Time Required: 4 – 6 hours
Training Required: A half hour safety briefing. Age Restrictions: Driver’s Licence.
Number of Volunteers Required: Preferably 2+
Group Two installs signs along Mocatta Street on the Thursday afternoon or evening of October 31st and Friday 1st November. There are approximately 90 signs to hammer into the ground at designated locations along the street. Sign Installers need to be able to swing a 5kg hammer or SAFELY hold a wooden peg while someone else swings the hammer. A drivers licence would make the job more manageable.
REMOVAL and COLLECTION of the signs can happen on Saturday after 2:00pm or Sunday 3rd November.
Group Two: Sign Installers

COMMUNITY MARQUEE INSTALLERS
As an important part of our focus on including everyone who wants to be a part of Jacaranda Day, we are providing approximately ten market stall marquees for small community groups and individuals who do not have access to those sort of resources. We are committed to EVERYONE having access to participating in Jacaranda Day. To that end, we need to install those marquees on the centre park strip of Mocatta Street. These facilities are best erected by a team of four people.
Four people should be able to erect ten marquees in four hours. The sites will be clearly marked and the marquees will be placed onsite.
Dismantlement will require the same time after 2:00pm on Jacaranda Day.

CHAIR INSTALLERS
Mocatta Street is hundreds of metres in length and November can be hot. So we are committed to providing rest for our valued visitors. We have approximately 200 chairs that need to be placed under and around the trees along Mocatta Street early on the morning of Jacaranda Day.
The chairs are light and will be dropped off at various intervals along the street.
Four people should be able to install the chairs in an hour.
Retrieval of the chairs will occur after 2:00pm (one hour)
Date Required: Saturday 02 November. Time Required: 7:00am (one Hour) 2:00pm (one hour)
Training Required: A half hour safety briefing. Age Restrictions: 12 plus with adult supervision.
Number of Volunteers Required: Preferably 4+
